46-year-old Officer Peter Marrero was arrested on Sunday at approximately 3:14 a.m.
Police say Officer Marrero, who was off-duty at the time, was involved in a minor accident with another vehicle on the 4200 block of North American Street.
Authorities say Marrero was impaired at the scene of the accident and was transported to the Police Detention Unit for a breathalyzer. He was deemed over the legal limit.
Marrero will be assigned administration duties at the Differential Response Unit (DPR) pending outcome of the investigation.
