Officials say the bombs exploded Monday evening.
They say one of the bombs went off near a police vehicle in the northeast Shiite neighborhood of al-Shaab, killing six people, including two policemen.
The second bomb went off in the western neighborhood of al-Muwasalat. Authorities say it was targeting Shiite pilgrims.
Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information to reporters.
