Tips for controlling flyaway hair

NEW YORK, N.Y.; January 10, 2012

Cold weather outside, and dry heat inside can really moisture from hair.

But a New York stylist is offering tips to prevent static. And his advice doesn't come a moment too soon. Monday was National Static Electricity Day.

Paul Wharton says, "In the cold winter months you really need to cut your shampoo regimen in half. Choose shampoos that are sulfate free and non-foaming."

Plus, he says to use moisturize your hair, with products that have vitamin E, shea oil, coconut oil, or keratin.

When you dry your hair, blot it with the towel, don't rub it.

"When you shake it dry with a towel, you are roughing up the cuticle which will only make the fly aways worse," says Wharton.

And a dryer sheet can also help smooth down strays, but use them sparingly.

"In a pinch, throw one in your purse, pull it out, smooth it out. Perfect," he says.
