Arrest made in murder of Wyndmoor woman

WYNDMOOR, Pa. - January 17, 2012

Johnny Fossett, 31, has been charged with murder in the death of Lori Jefferson, 38, in the home they shared in the 1000 block of Mermaid Lane in the Wyndmoor section of Springfield Township.

The District Attorney's office says the investigation began Sunday morning after dispatchers received two calls from Fossett saying he wanted to turn himself in and report a crime. Those calls were made at 6:48 a.m. and 7:16 a.m.

Police then tried to contact Jefferson, but received no response. Officers forced their way into the home at 7:37 a.m. and found her body bound and gagged.

Investigators say Fossett was living at Jefferon's home after the pair met in Florida last year. The two had an argument, police say, and Fossett began choking Jefferson.

After strangling, binding and gagging Jefferson, police say Fossett took several items from the home including a TV, computer and Jefferson's car before fleeing to Philadelphia.

Investigators say they believe Jefferson was killed sometime after midnight - around the time she took a phone call from an acquaintance.

Fossett was ordered to be held without bail. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 26th.
