Police: Mom left kids alone, went to Burger King

WILMINGTON, Del. - February 19, 2012

24-year-old Mandy Dineen of Gordy Estates in Wilmington was charged with endangering the welfare of her two children.

On Saturday at 6:13 p.m., police responded to the 700 block of Garnet Road for a 911 hang-up call.

When officers arrived, they heard loud music coming from inside the residence and noticed two young children in the living room.

After ringing the doorbell, a 6-year-old child answered the door.

When the officers entered the home, a 1-year-old child was seen walking around the living room with a telephone in his hand.

The investigation revealed that the children's mother, later identified as Mandy Dineen, went to a nearby Burger King and left her children in the home unattended.

Police learned that the 1-year-old had accidentally called 911 and that the 6-year-old was scared about the fact that he and his brother were left home alone.

As the officers were at the home, Dineen returned and was immediately taken into custody without incident.

The children were placed in the custody of family members and the Division of Family Services was notified.

Mandy Dineen was arrested and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance.
