AC Expressway lanes reopen after train derailment

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - March 10, 2012

The closures - which occurred near Exit 2 of the highway in Atlantic City - had caused major traffic delays in the area before the two lanes reopened early Sunday. A third westbound lane had remained opened throughout the weekend, but motorists had been urged to avoid the area while the emergency repairs were ongoing.

No injuries were reported when the train derailed shortly after 9 a.m. Friday. It apparently was carrying sand or some similar material when the mishap occurred on a trestle over the highway.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
