An exclusive Eyewitness News poll conducted by Survey USA shows Garcetti with 49 percent of the vote, compared to Greuel's 40 percent. That's a 2-percentage-point increase from two weeks ago.
The latest exclusive Eyewitness News poll shows a flip in women voters. As of Thursday, Garcetti has 45 percent of female voters in Los Angeles, up from 40 percent two weeks ago. Greuel dropped from 45 percent to 41 percent support from women, a 9-point swing.
"The real polls are the people out in the communities and neighborhoods," said Greuel. "Last week there were two polls that showed us literally in a statistical dead heat. I'm working every day to talk to people across the city of Los Angeles."
"We're now 5 points ahead with women," said Garcetti. "I think we are going to see some good numbers overall in the city. But I think the women of Los Angeles want to see parks and schools and neighborhoods improved. They want to see jobs in our city."
Greuel visited Granada Hills Charter High School to talk about education reform Thursday. It was her second event in two days held at a school.
"Parents shouldn't be stuck in schools that are failing our children," said Greuel.
She spoke with parents, students and administrators, saying there is too much bureaucracy getting in the way of teaching our children.
"Quality education does not start downtown. It starts with strong neighborhood schools that empower parents, teachers and principals," said Greuel.
Garcetti, meanwhile, came to the First AME Church in South Los Angeles. African-American voters are a key voting bloc. Thursday he picked up endorsements from several church leaders and former L.A. County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke.
"Your presence means everything to me," said Garcetti. "It speaks visually of the strength of this campaign that no one, no person, no voice, no face will be excluded, and the leadership that is behind me is Los Angeles."
Los Angeles mayoral candidates City Councilman Eric Garcetti and City Controller Wendy Greuel met to debate Thursday night at the American Jewish University in Bel-Air. It was their first debate since the primary election on March 5. The debate was moderated by ABC7 Anchor Marc Brown.
The candidates are scheduled to debate again on ABC7 on May 10.
The runoff election takes place on May 21.
