PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- For some, watching a movie might be an escape from the real world, immersing you into a far away place with drama and complex characters.
But what if I told you that some of these movies are a little closer to home than you thought? Here are some noteworthy films shot right in our own Philadelphia backyard.
The 1983 comedy "Trading Places" with Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy takes a wide tour of Center City, parts of City Hall, Suburban Station, The Union League of Philadelphia, and has shots of the unmistakable clothespin sculpture.
The quirky romantic comedy "Mannequin," starring Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall, was shot primarily at 13th and Broad in the Wanamaker building, what we now know as Macy's.
The 2012 film "Silver Linings Playbook" starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence uses a few recognizable Philly landmarks, but there was one in Upper Darby, Delaware County that I had to check out for myself.
That spot is the Llanerch Diner, where the two stars fight it out in a scene that the staff says just about every single customer asks about.
In the film, Bradley Cooper's character orders cereal and hot tea, but since I'm not new to the diner scene, I went with what diners do best - pork roll and cheese on a bagel with a side of french fries.
Filmmaker and Philadelphia native M. Night Shyamalan shoots a lot of his projects here, including the popular psychological thriller "The Sixth Sense" starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment.
You might recognize locations like the beautiful garden block of St. Albans Place in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood or St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Old City, which provided the backdrop for that very famous church scene.
Bruce Willis was here another time too, for the filming of "12 Monkeys" that he starred in with Brad Pitt. The 1995 film showcases parts of the historic Eastern State Penitentiary, the Met, and underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge.
And it's impossible to be from Philadelphia and not know that "Rocky" was filmed here.
Because of the popular franchise, the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art are an attraction that brings in multitudes of people from all over the world.
There are 72 steps in total and the views of the city skyline from the very top are worth the sweat.
The 95th Oscars air Sunday, March 12th at 8 p.m. on 6abc.
