Pirates and mermaids and superheroes, oh my! Top kids costumes for Halloween

Now that it's October, it's officially OK to start talking about Halloween, although if you're a parent, your kids have probably already been talking about costumes for weeks.

Party City says their Halloween experts looks at blockbuster movies, fashion trends and hot pop culture topics when trying to determine which costumes are going to be most popular.

Online retailer zuliliy has already put together a list of what they say are the top selling costumes for girls and boys and no surprise, Disney princesses and superheroes top the list.

Top 10 Halloween costumes for girls:

Party City says lots of people will also be considering costume accessories rather than a head-to-toe outfit from the store. Items like tutus, wings and hats can be paired with things people already own for custom costume looks.
