Philadelphia hosts grand finals for esport "Overwatch"
Thousands of gamers packed the Wells Fargo Center, but not to watch basketball or hockey. Community Journalist Matteo reports.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- A crowd of over 11,000 came from around the world to watch two teams face off in the next big sport.

It's not played on a field nor with a ball. Rather, it is played on computer screens.

The Overwatch League is an international esports league with 20 teams and a 280-match regular season beginning in February each year. The Overwatch League Grand Finals for 2019 took place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

"Overwatch" is a six-versus-six action game that involves teamwork and strategy. Players don their own gamer tags and choose favorite characters to personalize the competition.

The 2019 champions were the San Francisco Shock, who swept the Vancouver Titans in a 4-0 series.

San Francisco Shock player, Matthew DeLisi, also known as "Super," grew up in Philadelphia and was happy to bring his teammates to his own city to take the championship.
