Delaware Govervor offers lean budget

DOVER, Delaware - January 24, 2008 - Minner's proposed 3.41 billion dollar operating budget for fiscal 2009 represents an increase of 3.8 percent over the current fiscal year.

Administration officials say more than 90 percent of the budget growth is attributable to core expenditures such as Medicaid, public school enrollment and debt service.

Meanwhile, the governor is recommending a cut in economic development spending for the state's strategic fund and her New Economy Initiative from 17 million dollars to 10 million dollars.

The proposed budget includes no pay raise for state employees and no increase in their health insurance premiums for the third consecutive year.
