New way to find lost dogs

February 15, 2008 Council members and the SPCA today launched a round-the-clock service on the county's website called "Return a Lost Dog."

"It's very easy. It's available to anyone who locates a lost animal. Two things are necessary: access to the Internet and the dog must have a 2008 license," Council Chairman Linda Cartisano said.

Just go to the "lost dog" section, type in the dog's license number, and you'll get the owner's phone number.

Delaware County is the first in the Philadelphia suburbs to offer the service on its website.

Police and animal control officers asked for this service.

The SPCA says each dog reconnected with its owner opens a shelter space for a dog in need of a new home.
