PHILADELPHIA (AP) - April 16, 2009
Officials are planning on Monday to announce the creation of the
Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support in Philadelphia. It
is designed to offer training, outreach and advocacy to those
affected by autism. That includes educators, professionals and
families.
One of the center's priorities will be to train those who
evaluate and treat people with autism. Executive director Michelle
Rowe says the country's education system is not equipped to handle
the increasing number of cases of the developmental disorder.
The Kinney Center is expected to open in September on the campus
of the private Catholic university.
