It happened in the unit block of East Lynbrook Avenue just before 11:00 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to see flames shooting out of the two story house.
The homeowner who was injured was taken to Crozer Chester Hospital. Rescuers say he was hurt when he unsuccessfully tried to rescue his dog.
Investigators focused on the basement as a possible starting point for the fire.
The flames then spread up the stairs to the rest of the house.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious.
