Wilmington event ends with stabbing

WILMINGTON, Del. - May 3, 2011

Wilmington Lt. Thomas Spell says officers were called to the Parkway Academy Gymnasium on Sycamore Street early Sunday to investigate a stabbing and quell a disturbance. A 25-year-old man who was stabbed in the abdomen was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two dozen officers responded to the location and about 20 summonses were issued for disrupting the neighboring community.

The property is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington and St. Hedwig's Parish. Spell says the site is being referred to the Property Nuisance Committee. He says the building owners and organizers were contacted by police before the event about the possibility of disruption in the neighborhood.
