Booze ban at lawmaker receptions rejected

Members of the Tennessee state House have rejected an attempt to create a ban on free alcohol at lawmaker receptions.

Representative Ulysses Jones, a Memphis Democrat, argued that all lawmakers are at least 21 years old and should be able to make decisions about whether to drink alcohol on their own.

One of the Republican sponsors had called alcohol a temptation that many lawmakers have difficulty overcoming.
