Arrest made in stolen Cherry Hill statue case
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) - July 20, 2008 A bronze statue that was left at the now-demolished Garden State
Park horse racetrack was discovered missing last week.
It was valued at around $500,000.
Police say that a confidential tip led to Saturday's arrest of
33-year-old Ian MacDonald of Audubon. He is charged him with theft
and conspiracy. Now police are looking for three other suspects.
Authorities say they sold most of the bronze to a Camden salvage
yard, though part of it was recovered in Pennsauken.
At the going rate, the bronze in the one-ton statue would go for
around $4,000 - a fraction of what it was worth as art.
MacDonald is in the Camden County Jail on bail of $55,000.
