According to police, the boy went to the friend's house after he tried to go home, but no one was there because they were out searching for him.
His father called police around midnight Saturday to report his son was missing.
Police say they seached the boy's home on the 800 block of Daly Street in South Philadelphia, but he wasn't there.
Police also searched Frances Key Elementary School at 8th and Wolf Streets, where the boy attended classes Friday.
The boy was unharmed but taken to CHOP as a precaution.
