Exploding propane tank kills 12 dogs at Pa. kennel

LEHIGHTON, Pa. (AP) - March 6, 2009 Officials say the explosion at Pazzazz Pet Boarding near Lehighton occurred about 2:30 p.m. Friday while a tank was being filled by a propane delivery truck.

The blast killed 12 of the 30 dogs. Thirteen more were injured, six severely. Five emergency responders suffered minor burns or smoke inhalation.

Mark Nalesnik is the emergency management chief in Carbon County. He says many of the dogs were breeded for dog shows.
