Dealing with chatty cabbies

April 15, 2009 5:46:57 AM PDT
Hang-up and drive.

That's the message some New Yorkers have for the city's cabbies.

The New York Taxi and Limousine Commission is considering a proposal to install electronic cell phone jammers, to keep the chatty cabbies off of their phones.

Passengers would still be able to make calls from the back seat.

Officials add the jammers wouldn't block emergency calls.

But a New York Taxi Workers Alliance leader opposes the idea.

The alliance says cell phones are a life line, not a luxury for New York cab drivers.
