An unusual hazmat incident forced the evacuation of a Mount Airy middle school Tuesday.

Police say someone set off a can of pepper spray in a hallway at the Charles Henry School on the 600 block of Carpenter Lane at around 1:00 p.m.

About a dozen students were overcome by the fumes and were treated by paramedics.

Two of the students were given oxygen after they came in contact with the spray.

Students were later able to go back into the school while police investigated.

Officials say they have no known suspects at this time.
