Student achievement improves in Delaware schools

DOVER, Del. (AP) - September 2, 2012

The News Journal reports 181 schools met the law's requirements for "adequate yearly progress." There were 32 schools in Delaware that did not reach the targets. The statewide data was released Friday.

The state's schools are measured on test scores, attendance, test preparation and graduation rates.

Goals for state schools have changed after Delaware was one of 33 states and the District of Columbia that was granted a waiver from portions of the federal requirements.

Delaware's schools saw an increase in the number of students reaching proficiency in reading and math on state assessments in the 2010-2011 school year.
