The Hudson County Sheriff's office says 48-year-old Idowu Daramola of Thornwood, N.Y, about 20 miles north of New York City, was charged with death by auto, reckless driving and using a cellphone while operating a vehicle.
Attorney information for Daramola wasn't immediately available.
The accident happened Tuesday in West New York, which is just across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Authorities say the bus struck a lamppost, which fell onto a stroller. The bus then hit a tree, another lamppost and a parked car, which struck three other parked vehicles.
Eight-month-old Angela Paredes was killed. Seven other people were sent to hospitals.
On Wednesday morning, a makeshift memorial was set up as utility crews reinstalled the light pole.
