A Virginia man is back in Pennsylvania to face charges in a 30-year-old Easton murder case. Fifty-year-old Robert W. White Jr. of Roanoke is charged with killing 21-year-old Virginia Morrell on Halloween night in 1978. Her nude and bound body was found inside her one-room efficiency. Investigators say she was asphyxiated.

White served time for attempted rape at a club outside Easton and was convicted in Virginia of abduction and rape in 1982. He came to the attention of Easton authorities after evidence from the 1978 case was resubmitted for DNA testing.

White was arraigned in district court Friday on criminal homicide charges. He was then taken to Northampton County Prison pending an April 14 preliminary hearing. White declined comment on the case to reporters.
